🚧 Smokies.LIVE Travel Center: Drivers should expect detours and delays through July 24

Motorists traveling through the Pleasant Ridge Road area should prepare for a temporary intersection closure beginning 7 a.m. Monday, July 20, as crews begin installing new infrastructure and traffic signal improvements.

The intersection of Pleasant Ridge Road and Walnoaks Road will be closed to through traffic while construction is underway. Weather permitting, crews will work daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the project expected to be completed by Friday, July 24.

During the closure, two-way traffic will be allowed on Pleasant Ridge Road between the Moss Creek subdivision and Sullivan Road.

Drivers traveling to Moss Creek, Springtime, Lesa Lane and Claytop should follow the posted detour around the closed intersection.

Once construction is complete and the intersection reopens, a temporary four-way stop will be put in place before the roadway returns to its normal one-way traffic configuration on Pleasant Ridge Road.

Officials are asking motorists to slow down in the work zone, follow all posted detour signs and allow extra travel time while improvements are completed. The project is designed to enhance safety and traffic flow through the intersection.
