SEYMOUR, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Information Center) — Volunteers will have two opportunities this fall to help preserve and honor the graves of military veterans at historic cemeteries in East Tennessee.

The Veteran’s Heritage Site Foundation will host a gravestone-cleaning event from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 17 at Eusebia Cemetery in Seymour.

The cemetery is home to 22 Revolutionary War veterans, along with many other veterans from different periods of American history.

Volunteers are invited to participate in the cleaning effort or stop by to learn more about the work being done to preserve veterans’ gravesites.

A second event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 14 at Elkmont Cemetery in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Volunteers will focus on cleaning veterans’ gravestones at the historic cemetery.

Organizers said people are welcome to attend either event simply to observe and learn more about the preservation work.
