(COCKE COUNTY, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – A military monument was vandalized twice and sheriff’s deputies are looking for who is responsible.
According to Cocke County Sheriff’s Office, the memorial stone was knocked over on one day and the next it was thrown off an embankment.
Deputies say this happened behind the National Guard Armory and Armory Road area.
“My brother, Sgt. Ryan Jay Drever, passed away in April of 2017. In August of 2017, a monument was placed in Newport to honor his service and life for all who knew him. Sometime between April 2nd and 3rd, it was desecrated. The heavy stone was forced off of the base and thrown over a cliff. The cliff was 11 steps for me to walk. It would have been heavy to have thrown. We are searching for anyone who might know who the individual(s) were that caused the damage. If anyone knows, who did it, please reach out to Cocke County Sheriff’s Office,” said Shelly Herrell.

Who in the world would Desha crate a military mans grave. I cannot believe the people of newport are this hateful. But, oh yes, I can’t believe it. If anyone knows anything about this, you should be ashamed of yourself. And I hope they catch you for doing this. This man did nothing wrong except stand up for his country and do the right thing for all of us, very, very disappointing, very, very hateful move someone did.I hope they find you and you get in trouble for what you’ve done, please.If you know anybody that did this, please contact the local authorities and let them know who did this.
I completely agree…they Always think they’re correct and try to change history….sad
So sad that anyone would damage a marker let alone a military grave. Love the ones who served our nation.
