Drivers should expect daytime closures Friday and Monday as KUB prepares for wastewater system improvements.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Motorists traveling through East Knoxville should plan for temporary traffic changes as Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) crews begin work on wastewater system upgrades.

A short section of Spruce Street at the East Fifth Avenue intersection will be closed daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, July 24, and Monday, July 27, while crews saw-cut asphalt in preparation for construction on wastewater collection system pipes and manholes.

The roadway will reopen to normal traffic on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26 before the closure resumes Monday.

What Drivers Should Know

Traffic control measures, including flaggers and signage, will be in place to help direct vehicles safely through the area.

The Smokies.LIVE Travel Center recommends allowing extra travel time if your route takes you through East Knoxville during the scheduled work hours.
