(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Sevier County Highway Department said they started pretreating the county’s roads on Friday.
County crews spent the past few days checking salt piles, loading trucks and making sure equipment is ready to use in advance of the expected snowfall.
“We will begin pretreating our roads starting tomorrow afternoon for the upcoming winter weather threat,” the Sevier County Highway Department put on Facebook. “A friendly reminder, make sure you have everything that you need before the weather hits. Do not go anywhere unless completely necessary. Finally if it is an emergency call 911!”
Sevier County has about 900 miles of county-maintained roads that will need to be pretreated and then retreated as the event evolves.
On December 16, 2025, the Sevier County Board of Commissioners voted to appoint Donnie Adams as Sevier County Road Superintendent.
To spread that 3000 tons of rock salt the county highway department has 19 trucks equipped with plows and spreaders.
If the weather is significant enough, they will run day and night shifts to make sure that they can quickly and efficiently clear the roads as well as staying on top of any more accumulation that may happen.
