(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – A new mural greets shoppers visiting Tanger Sevierville and it was created by a local artist.

The new scene marks a final piece in the extensive renovation started last year at the center. The center said this will elevate the shopping destination and reflects Tanger’s mission to engage the community.

The new Great Smoky Mountains scene can be found on the service route wall and spans 110 feet. It was painted by local artist Shane Sanberg. Sanberg is also a Sevierville-based UPS driver who delivers daily to Tanger Sevierville.

The center said this partnership reinforces Tanger Sevierville’s commitment to honoring and building the community it serves. The mural likewise honors the area’s Appalachian heritage, weaving local culture into the guest experience.

“I wanted to create a detailed landscape artwork of the Great Smoky Mountains, entirely from different types and colors of wood grain,” said Sanberg. “Each mountain layer is represented by a unique wood texture and tone, ranging from deep walnut browns to lighter maple, oak, cherry and birch shades, fading into the distance. I also incorporated the natural direction of the wood grain to suggest movement in the mountains, ridges and rolling valleys. My goal was for the final piece to feel warm, earthy and dimensional, as though assembled from hand-cut and polished wooden pieces – no overly dramatic colors, only the natural beauty of wood varieties creating depth, light and atmosphere.”

You can find the new art behind Under Armour. Shoppers will also find new amenities around the center, including areas designed to enhance the guest experience by providing shaded seating, firepits, a family play area and more. Revitalized landscaping and hardscape elements, including whimsical new woodland animal sculptures that celebrate local wildlife, elevate the center’s style and add new vibrancy. Renovations are expected to be completed in Spring 2026.
