(GATLINBURG, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Some areas of Sevier County have started to see some icing occur. Interstate 40 in Kodak has some light ice collection on the shoulders of the road.

A check on other roads across Sevier County, the main Parkway from Sevierville, through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg is clear. Sleet was falling at 4:30 p.m.

There’s some collection of ice on grassy surfaces in Seymour/South Knoxville area.

More than a dozen roads in Great Smoky Mountains National Park have closed in advance of the winter storm forecast to move into East Tennessee and Western North Carolina on Saturday.

The following roads are closed due to forecasted winter weather conditions: US 441/Newfound Gap Road between Cherokee, NC and Gatlinburg, TN; Lakeview Drive; Laurel Creek Road; Little River Road; Cades Cove Loop Road; All sections of Foothills Parkway; Tom Branch Road; Wear Cove Gap Road; Cherokee Orchard Road at the boundary; Cosby; Greenbrier; and Big Creek

TDOT SmartWay Cameras capture a very different scene at the midday with snow covered interstates in Memphis.

Closer to Nashville, a snow-covered Interstate 40 extends into Middle Tennessee near Crossville.

Arrival times have moved up a bit and will be just after sunrise to see impacts from the snow and ice. There are reports of flurries and sleet around Sevier County. No impacts to roadways at this time.
