(KODAK, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Heath Shuler Sporting Clays Classic was held to benefit Covenant Health LeConte. The tournament has become the largest fundraiser for the Sevier County hospital.
“Having an opportunity to be able to help people when they need help the most and Covenant Health has been able to do that through their hospitals and be able to educate them, but more importantly when they need their bills paid, this is an opportunity that we can take this money and help pay the bills,” said Shuler, celebrity host for the event at Iron Mountain Sporting Clays in Kodak.
Proceeds support patient care needs at Covenant Health LeConte, including free mammography, advanced certifications and clinical training for staff, and education materials for new parents.
According to Lauren Hounshell, Development Manager Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation, LeConte gives back almost $8M in charity care per year. Philanthropic support plays a large role in healthcare in Sevier County.
“Paint the Mountains Pink provides mammograms for women who are not able to afford them,” Hounshell added.
Other main fundraising initiatives underway at LeConte include Emily B Kile Comprehensive Breast Center, Linda Ogle Center for Advanced Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, and new patient education materials for the QB Department.
The next opportunity to raise money for LeConte Medical Center and patient care will be the Cotton Berrier Golf Classic will be held on Monday, July 13 at Gatlinburg Golf Course. The tournament has two rounds with shotgun starts at 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Proceeds from this event and other Dr. Thomas Foundation fundraising efforts will provide the patients and families served by Covenant Health LeConte.
