Lower-level closure at the airport will continue through spring 2027 and could affect passenger pickup.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Travel Center) — Travelers heading to the airport should plan for a change beginning Monday, Aug. 24, as construction gets underway on a new parking garage canopy.
The left lane of the lower-level roadway closest to the parking garage will close beginning Aug. 24 and remain closed through spring 2027.
The new canopy will create a covered walkway connecting the new parking garage with the terminal building.
The closure will temporarily restrict access to the lower level for passenger pickup. Drivers should allow additional time, follow posted traffic signs and directions and keep traffic moving.
Curbside parking will not be available during the construction. The curb is designated for passenger pickup only.

HOLIDAY TRAVEL EXCEPTION
To help handle increased traffic during the holiday travel season, the lane will temporarily reopen during peak holiday travel periods.
Travelers are also encouraged to use the airport’s Phone & Wait Lot, located next to the Airport Hilton.
The airport is reminding passengers and those picking up travelers to plan ahead and allow extra time while the construction is underway.
