Henderson outlines priorities for four-year term during historic ceremony at Tennessee Theatre.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Information Center) — Betsy Henderson was sworn in as Knox County mayor Tuesday during a historic installation ceremony at the Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville, becoming the first woman in county history to hold the office.
Henderson was sworn in alongside other elected officials during the ceremony as she formally began her term leading Knox County.
“I’m truly honored to serve as the next mayor of Knox County and to build upon the successes we have experienced over the past several years,” Henderson said. “We will continue to ensure that this is the best place to do business, raise a family, and live.”
During her inaugural address, Henderson outlined her vision for the county and the priorities she plans to pursue during the next four years.
“Together, we will make Knox County a leader and a model for communities across Tennessee,” Henderson said. “We won’t do it quietly or passively, but with intentional action pointed at solving problems for the hardworking people who live and do business here each day.”
Henderson said she plans to work closely with the Knox County Commission and Knox County school board to advance her agenda.
Her priorities include keeping taxes low, supporting what she described as smart conservative growth, improving schools and roads, and advocating for working families.
Henderson’s swearing-in marks a milestone in Knox County history as she becomes the first woman elected to serve as county mayor.
She takes office with a four-year term ahead and a stated focus on economic development, education, infrastructure and maintaining a favorable environment for families and businesses.
