Newly painted tunnels celebrate community and add public art along Townsend’s pedestrian and cycling routes.
TOWNSEND, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Adventure Center) — Three pedestrian tunnels in Townsend have received a colorful makeover, adding new murals to a popular route for walkers and cyclists.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held this week to celebrate the completion of the newly painted murals.
The project was spearheaded by the Townsend Cades Cove Gateway Alliance, with support from community members and local leaders.
Townsend City Manager Don Stallions participated in the ceremony and officially cut the ribbon marking the completion of the project.
The new artwork can be seen by people walking or biking through the three pedestrian tunnels.
Organizers thanked the Townsend Cades Cove Gateway Alliance for leading the project and the artist responsible for creating the murals.
Blount County Mayor’s Office representatives, Jared Anderson, community members, local leaders, Townsend Vice Mayor Rindi Massari Martin and Commissioner Harry McIntosh also attended the ceremony to support the project.
The murals add another piece of public art to Townsend and provide visitors and residents with a new attraction along the community’s pedestrian and cycling routes.
Visitors can view the murals by walking or biking through the tunnels in Townsend.
