Matt Sturm brings more than 20 years of oncology leadership and advisory experience to East Tennessee health system

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Health Center) — Covenant Health has named nationally experienced oncology strategist Matt Sturm as senior vice president of oncology services as the East Tennessee health system continues to expand access to cancer care across the region.

Sturm will lead Covenant Health’s long-term oncology strategy and oversee the continued advancement of Covenant Health Cancer Care.

Covenant Health is a locally governed, not-for-profit health system serving patients across 25 counties in East Tennessee.

Sturm brings more than 20 years of oncology leadership and advisory experience, including work with health systems across the country to develop and expand cancer programs.

Before joining Covenant Health, Sturm served as partner and oncology practice leader with ECG Management Consultants, where he co-led the firm’s Center for Advanced Oncology. He completed nearly 200 oncology engagements in 30 states, working with cancer programs across the country, including National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers.

At Covenant Health, Sturm will work with physicians, clinical leaders and operational teams to strengthen clinical coordination, expand access to care and guide the system’s oncology strategy.

“Matt is a nationally respected oncology leader,” said Jon-David Deeson, executive vice president of physician enterprise and ambulatory services for Covenant Health. “He brings strategic insight and collaborative leadership needed to strengthen our cancer program and expand access.”

Sturm has also held leadership positions with the Association of Cancer Executives and the Association of Community Cancer Centers. He is a co-author and editor of the book “Oncology: Strategies for Superior Service Line Performance.”
