Smokies.LIVE Travel Center: Motorists should use an alternate route while crews complete roadway repairs.
CHEROKEE, N.C. (Smokies.LIVE Travel Center) — A section of Old #4 Road in Cherokee will close to traffic Monday, Oct. 19, as crews replace a culvert beneath the roadway, according to the Cherokee Department of Transportation.
The closure will extend from Tsalagi Trail to the last house above Jenkins Crossing Bridge on Old #4 Road.
The department is asking motorists to avoid the affected section and use an alternate route while construction is underway.
Culvert replacement projects help maintain roadway infrastructure by improving drainage and allowing water to flow beneath roads.
Motorists who have questions or concerns about the closure can contact Nathaniel Lambert at 828-508-8857.
Drivers should plan ahead and allow additional time for travel while the work is being completed.
