Residents must obtain a free permit before burning leaves, brush and other natural vegetation.
TENNESSEE (Smokies.LIVE Information Center) — Burn permits are now required for outdoor burning in Tennessee and will remain mandatory through May 15, according to the Tennessee Division of Forestry.
Residents planning to burn leaves, brush or other natural vegetation must obtain a free burn permit before starting a fire. Permits are available online at BurnSafeTN.org or through the MyTN mobile app.
Permits are issued only when weather and other conditions are considered safe for outdoor burning. Residents should check current restrictions and follow all permit requirements before lighting a fire.
Only natural vegetation may be burned under the permit program. Burning household trash, construction debris and other prohibited materials is not allowed.
Residents who live within city limits should check with their local municipality before burning because additional rules or restrictions may apply.
Officials encourage residents to follow safe burning practices and verify that conditions are suitable before conducting any outdoor burning.
