KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE GameDay Center) — Downtown Knoxville will see expanded road closures during the next three University of Tennessee home football weekends to help accommodate increased pedestrian activity.

Union Avenue, between Walnut and Gay streets, and Market Street, between Clinch and Union avenues, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 2 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Sunday on the following weekends:

  • Nov. 6-8
  • Nov. 20-22

The closures are intended to provide additional space for pedestrians as fans and visitors gather downtown for the home football weekends.

Drivers should plan ahead, allow extra time to reach downtown destinations and use alternate routes around the affected streets.

Officials also encourage fans and visitors to remain aware of their surroundings and look out for fellow pedestrians while enjoying downtown Knoxville.

With increased activity expected throughout the weekends, motorists should pay attention to posted closures and exercise caution in areas where people are walking.
