The Cosby-area trail provides fall scenery and a roughly 4.3-mile round-trip hike away from some of the park’s busier destinations.

COSBY, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Adventure Center) — Visitors looking for fall color and a waterfall hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park may find a quieter alternative at Hen Wallow Falls near Cosby.

The hike covers approximately 4.3 miles round trip and winds through a forest before reaching the waterfall. The trail features a steady but manageable climb, offering hikers an opportunity to enjoy the mountain scenery along the way.

Hen Wallow Falls can be an option for those hoping to avoid some of the crowds found at more popular waterfall destinations in the national park, particularly during the busy fall foliage season.

Hikers are encouraged to bring plenty of water, allow time to enjoy the trail and consider packing a picnic for a break during their outing.

Fall brings changing leaves to the surrounding forest, adding seasonal color to the hike and waterfall views. As with any trip into the Smokies, visitors should prepare for changing weather conditions and be mindful of their physical abilities when choosing a trail.

Hen Wallow Falls is located in the Cosby area of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Trail conditions, parking availability and the amount of fall color can vary throughout the season.
