(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – The City of Sevierville has approved a plan to exchange
right-of-way with a private property owner to relocate a City Street out of the floodway.
The Board of Mayor and Alderman approved a negotiated an agreement with the private property owners at 2173 Red Bank Road to facilitate relocation of a portion of Red Bank Road out of the mapped floodway.
Under the terms of the agreement, the property owners will convey a new fifty-foot (50’) wide right-of-way to the City for construction of the relocated roadway. Upon completion of construction of the new alignment, the City will formally abandon the existing right-of-way crossing the property and convey that closed right-of-way back to the property owners.
The agreement also addresses access provisions, installation of roadway closure gates, driveway construction, and extension of water and sewer services associated with the new roadway alignment.

The City of Sevierville Planning Commission is once again looking at changes to Red Bank Road. This time the commission is looking at preliminary approval of road relocation.
Residents who use Red Bank Road say they’re concerned this will lead to a future unwanted development the commission voted down in October. Developers had asked for rezoning 400 acres to build 1200 homes off Red Bank Road.
On the agenda on Tuesday night, the planning commission is looking at a plan they say will enhance the public safety for the citizens in the vicinity of Red Bank Road.
“This is happening for some reason to benefit DR Horton. There is no reason to move the road as where they are moving it to is still in the flood plain,” Weston Underwood told Smokies.Live on Sunday.
Underwood lives in the neighborhood and has raised concerns about the proposals.

This is a proposed road relocation for a portion of Red Bank Road. The Public Works
Department, with the support of Emergency Management, proposes to realign the road and
remove it from a flood hazard area to enhance the public safety for the citizens in the vicinity
of Red Bank Rd. The owner of map 74 parcel 47.01, Dr. Francisco Moreno, has agreed to the
relocation and the Board of Mayor and Alderman are expected to approve the agreement at
their January meeting. Upon completion of the improvements, a final plat will be submitted
showing the new right-of-way configuration. At that time a quit claim deed will be prepared
for the transfer of the existing portion of Red Bank Rd. The current road is classified as a
collector and the proposed right-of-way width will be 50’as required by the Subdivison
Regulations. Future development of the adjoining property will be requierd to align with the
proposed relocation.
