(CHEROKEE, N.C.) SMOKIES.LIVE – A State of Emergency has been issued for the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians by Principal Chief Michell Hicks.
He said on Facebook a State of Emergency was issued for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians due to the forecasted winter storm.
Hazardous travel conditions and possible power outages are expected.
“I urge everyone to avoid unnecessary travel, prepare now, and be sure to check on our elders and neighbors,” said Hicks.
Cherokee and Swain County are under an ice warning for two inches of snow and ice expected by the National Weather Service.
