(GATLINBURG, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – As we move into next week expect brutal cold air to settle in and it blows in overnight into Monday morning.

All of us wake up to below freezing temperatures with a few mountain snow showers near Gatlinburg.

Near Sevierville, Gatlinburg & Cherokee, I expect the temperature to drop below freezing around 10 p.m. This is when the rain will change over to a snow, sleet and freezing rain mixture. It stays as all snow between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. with a few flurries still around.

These light snow showers will only produce a light dusting across the foothills of Sevier, Blount and Cocke Counties.

We’re all near 20 degrees on Monday morning, with teens closer to Gatlinburg and Cherokee. With the winds coming out of the NW at 5-10 mph you’ll feel the wind chill. That will be down in the single digits. Winds will be stronger on the North Carolina side of the mountains where areas like Maggie Valley will have gusts near 25 mph.

NWS Message - Be prepared for slick spots on roadways overnight into Monday morning. The morning commute could be affected. Use caution if you will be driving.

We stay cold for the rest of the week with temperatures barely getting out of the 30s for highs.

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect until noon Wednesday. Check Current Conditions Here.
