Haywood County residents who turn 65 or become totally and permanently disabled in 2025, and whose total income is $38,800 or less, may qualify for property tax relief.

Eligible homeowners must apply by June 1, 2026.

What the program provides:
Excludes $25,000 of your home’s value or 50% of the appraised value — whichever is greater.

Already receiving the exclusion?
You do not need to reapply unless:
• Your income exceeds $38,800 for 2025
• Your marital status changes
• The use of the property changes

First-time applicants (disability):
Please bring a doctor’s statement from a North Carolina licensed physician confirming you are totally and permanently disabled.

Please note: Homeowners who qualify for this exclusion cannot receive any other
property tax relief program.
