(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Helicopters have been flying to the highest lodging point in the Smoky Mountains the past week. They are part of the seasonal reopening process at LeConte Lodge on the top of Ole Smoky.
High atop Mt. LeConte, 6,593 feet, in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, LeConte Lodge® is the highest guest lodge in the eastern United States. The lodge is located west of the summit at 6,360 feet elevation.
The lodge uses helicopters to lift in seasonal supplies before opening to the public for Spring.
“It was another busy day in the skies and on the ground, but we aren’t done yet! Plenty of work still to do today,” the Lodge said on Facebook. “The entire Lodge area remains closed to public access.”
The Lodge will open for the 2026 season this Monday, March 23. Visitor services will kick off at NOON.
