(WAYNESVILLE, N.C.) SMOKIES.LIVE – The North Carolina Department of Transportation says they are 87% complete with repairs from flood waters from Hurricane Helene.
It was 18 months ago Hurricane Helene impacted communities across North Carolina.
NCDOT UPDATE:
~590 bridges repaired & 26 replaced
-74 of 96 damaged culverts fixed
-87% of 9,450+ damaged sites in WNC repaired
There’s still a long way to go before repairs are finished on Interstate 40 through the Pigeon River Gorge. I-40 reconstruction is expected to be finished by late 2028.
