Flood Watch in effect until 11 a.m. for the Tennessee Smoky Mountain areas. Watch for creeks and streams to rise if you are hiking or camping in the mountains.

(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Saturday morning starts off calm, but then the evening turns severe as a line of storms moves across the East Tennessee area and into Western North Carolina.

For Gatlinburg, the morning should start off with a mix of sun and clouds. Winds through the day can gust near 20 mph at times. Clouds build through the lunch time, then we have stronger storms developing by the afternoon and evening hours. A main threat will be local flash flooding. Some creeks may come up out of their banks. Be prepared to seek higher ground.

If you are in Cherokee or Bryson City, the winds really never pick-up on the North Carolina side. As the storms move over the mountains, they won’t be as strong. But a rogue strong cell can produce some downpours. The strongest of the storms will come after 7 p.m. with just isolated batches starting around lunch.

Waynesville, Maggie Valley can all get a good tenth of an inch of rain out of these storms. One or two could be strong to severe.

The Smokies.LIVE Weather page provides real-time information from the radar to rainfall rates.

COVERAGE CONTINUES – EARLY ALERT TO A NEAR 100 DEGREES NEXT WEEK
