Heavy rain is causing water to collect on roads and in low-lying areas as storms continue across the Knoxville area.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (SMOKIES.LIVE) — The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Flood Advisory for southern Knox County as heavy rainfall continues to move across the area.
The advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. EDT.
Forecasters say excessive rainfall is expected to produce minor flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas, with water already covering some roadways. Ponding of water in urban areas is also occurring or expected to develop as additional rain falls.
Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling, especially on roads prone to flooding. Even shallow water can hide hazards and make driving dangerous.
The Smokies.LIVE Storm Center recommends avoiding flooded roadways whenever possible and remembering the safety message: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
Residents should continue monitoring weather conditions, as additional showers and thunderstorms may lead to changing conditions through the evening.
