New “Ober the Top Off-Road” experience gives Jeep and off-road enthusiasts exclusive access to the mountaintop adventure.
GATLINBURG, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE) — Off-road enthusiasts will have a chance to experience the Smokies from a new perspective this summer as Ober Gatlinburg opens its mountain to trail-rated Jeeps and other qualifying off-road vehicles for the first time.
The inaugural Ober the Top Off-Road event will take place Aug. 21-22, in conjunction with Smoky Mountain Jeep Invasion™, giving participants exclusive access to what Ober Gatlinburg calls Tennessee’s highest off-road trail.
Drivers will navigate the resort’s new Challenge Trail, climbing to the top of the Challenge Lift at 3,208 feet above sea level. The trail gains approximately 526 feet in elevation, winding through the mountains with terrain designed to accommodate a variety of off-road skill levels.
For those looking for an extra test, optional obstacle sections along the trail will allow experienced drivers to tackle more technical challenges.
At the summit, participants will be rewarded with panoramic views of the Great Smoky Mountains before making the descent back to the base area. Each vehicle completing the course will receive a commemorative Ober the Top Off-Road sticker.
The off-road experience is only part of the weekend festivities.
Following the trail ride, participants in Smoky Mountain Jeep Invasion are invited to continue the celebration at Ober Gatlinburg’s base lodge, where live music, specialty food and beverages, and mountain views will be featured throughout the event.
Entertainment on the Pepsi Soundstage includes Liquid Velvet on Friday and the Aaron Walker Band on Saturday.
Visitors can also enjoy many of Ober Gatlinburg’s year-round attractions, including scenic chairlift rides, the Mountain Coaster, Smoky Mountain Bobsled, the Wildlife Habitat and other family-friendly activities.
The two-day event will be held at Ober Gatlinburg Adventure Park and Ski Area, 1339 Ski Mountain Road in Gatlinburg.
Trail Ride passes are $34 when purchased online and $39 at the gate, with advance reservations recommended due to expected demand. Adventure Park attractions require separate admission.
To participate, vehicles must have rear lockers and a minimum of 8 inches of ground clearance.
