Annual gathering celebrates the legacy of the iconic Pigeon Forge Pottery while raising money for the Friends of the Library.
PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — Collectors and fans of one of the Smokies’ most treasured pottery traditions will gather in Pigeon Forge next month for the annual Pigeon Forge Pottery Collectors Group Show & Sale.
The free event will take place Saturday, Aug. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pigeon Forge Public Library and is open to the public. Visitors of all ages are invited to browse, buy and learn about handcrafted pieces that have become cherished collectibles throughout the region.
The annual event is organized by members of a Facebook group dedicated to preserving the history of Pigeon Forge Pottery, which operated from 1946 until 2000. Founded by Douglas and Ruth Ferguson, the pottery became a staple of the community for more than five decades before Ruth Ferguson sold the business following Douglas Ferguson’s death in 1999.
Today, the original workshop and retail location is home to Pigeon River Pottery, located across from the Old Mill.
Collectors from across the region will display and sell pieces from their personal collections, giving visitors the opportunity to discover rare pottery and hear the stories behind the handcrafted works.
Guests can also participate in a cash-only raffle for a chance to win an authentic piece of Pigeon Forge Pottery. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Friends of the Pigeon Forge Public Library, helping support library programs and services.
This year’s gathering marks the third consecutive year the event has been hosted at the Pigeon Forge Public Library, continuing a tradition that celebrates the craftsmanship and history of one of the Smokies’ most recognizable pottery makers.
