Investigators say there is no threat to the public as the case remains open pending autopsy and forensic results.
SEYMOUR, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Information Center) — The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office says its investigation into the deaths of three people discovered Friday outside an apartment in Seymour has been determined to be a murder-suicide.
According to investigators, deputies responded to 124 Marine Way on Friday, July 31, where three deceased individuals were found outside an apartment.
Based on evidence collected at the scene and the findings of detectives, investigators determined that a 33-year-old man fatally shot a 31-year-old woman and a 3-month-old infant girl before taking his own life.
Authorities emphasized that there is no threat to the public. The investigation remains open pending the completion of autopsy results and standard forensic examinations.
In a statement released Monday, Sevier County Sheriff Michael R. Hodges Jr. acknowledged the emotional toll the investigation has taken on first responders.
“This was an extraordinarily difficult scene for our deputies, investigators, medical examiners, dispatchers, EMS and all of our first responders. While they are trained to respond to the most challenging situations, incidents involving the loss of life, especially an innocent child, leave a lasting impact on everyone involved. We extend our condolences to the families, friends, neighbors and all those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy. We remain committed to completing this difficult investigation with compassion, while treating everyone involved with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to respect the privacy of the families as the investigation continues.
