KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Health Center) — Every Covenant Health acute care hospital has earned achievement awards from the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® program, recognizing the health system’s commitment to providing research-based care for patients with heart disease and stroke.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, while stroke ranks as the fourth-leading cause. The Get With The Guidelines® program, developed by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, helps hospitals implement the latest scientific recommendations to improve patient outcomes.
“This recognition reflects the extraordinary dedication of our physicians, nurses, clinicians and support teams across Covenant Health,” said Ruth Fisher, senior vice president of cardiovascular services for Covenant Health. “We are honored that every one of our acute care hospitals has been recognized by the American Heart Association. We are especially proud that these awards highlight the consistent quality of cardiovascular care being delivered across our health system.”
Several East Tennessee hospitals earned top honors in multiple categories, including STEMI, NSTEMI and stroke care.

Dr. Karen E. Joynt Maddox, chair of the American Heart Association Quality Oversight Committee, said the awards demonstrate Covenant Health’s commitment to providing high-quality cardiovascular care while helping improve patient outcomes, reduce readmissions and lower mortality rates.
The annual awards recognize hospitals that consistently apply nationally recognized, evidence-based standards of care, helping ensure patients receive the most effective treatments for heart attacks and strokes when every minute matters.
