GATLINBURG, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Storm Center) — The heat builds across the Smokies through Wednesday, with mostly sunny skies and afternoon highs climbing from around 90 degrees Monday to the lower 90s by midweek.
Monday: A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 2 and 3 p.m. Otherwise, sunny and hot with a high near 90. Overnight lows fall to around 69.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny and hot with a high near 91. There is a 20% chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm after 2 p.m. The night stays mostly clear with a low around 70.
Wednesday: The hottest day of the stretch, with a high near 92. Skies will be mostly sunny with a 20% chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Wednesday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 71.

With humidity increasing, heat index values could approach or exceed 100 degrees, especially during the afternoon. Anyone spending time outdoors should stay hydrated and take breaks from the heat.
