57 park rangers and volunteers are searching areas in and around the park for Marcin Bachleda-Blaszczak
GATLINBURG, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Information Center) — Great Smoky Mountains National Park has expanded the search for a man who was reported missing on the evening of Aug. 24.
Marcin Bachleda-Blaszczak is from Illinois and is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall and approximately 170 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.
Following the missing-person report, Bachleda-Blaszczak’s vehicle was found in the parking lot at Sugarlands Visitor Center. Investigators say his last known location was the Sugarlands Visitor Center parking lot on Aug. 22.
A team of 57 park rangers and volunteers is actively searching areas in and around the national park, with additional resources assisting the effort.
As the search area expands, visitors may encounter search personnel wearing brightly colored shirts both on and off established trails.
Search teams may also be operating drones as part of the emergency response. Although drones are generally prohibited in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, officials say they are being used temporarily to assist with the search.
