SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Information Center) — The tributes left in memory of Dolly Parton at her statue are now taking on a new life, continuing a tradition of generosity that reflected the Sevier County native herself.
“The sweetest gift is a gift twice given,” Parton once said.
In that spirit, flowers placed at the Dolly Parton statue in her memory have been donated to Random Acts of Flowers, an organization that creates bouquets for people in need.
The balloons left by those paying tribute to Parton also will be put to use. They are headed to Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital, where they will be used to brighten the day of young patients.
The cards, gifts and personal mementos left at the statue have been carefully saved and will be sent to Parton’s family.
The items represent an outpouring of love and memories from people who have come to honor Parton following her death.
And the opportunity to pay tribute isn’t over.
People can still bring flowers, cards, gifts and other mementos to the statue. Those organizing the memorial are making room for additional tributes as more people continue to visit.
For many, leaving a flower, balloon, card or small keepsake is a personal way to say goodbye.
Now, those gestures will continue to make a difference — carrying forward the generosity and kindness Parton was known for.
