The attraction is raising money for Cancer Support Community East Tennessee throughout October and offering free admission to first responders Oct. 24-31.

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Events Center) — As Breast Cancer Awareness Month continues, WonderWorks Pigeon Forge is reminding visitors that there are still opportunities to support the fight against breast cancer while recognizing the first responders who serve their communities.

Throughout October, the upside-down attraction is raising money for Cancer Support Community East Tennessee, a local organization that provides free support to people impacted by cancer.

Guests can round up their ticket purchases to the nearest dollar at the door, with the collected funds benefiting the organization. Additionally, 5% of proceeds from “Think Pink” T-shirts sold in The Wonder Shop will be donated to the cause.

WonderWorks is also offering an interactive activity where visitors can create encouraging cards for breast cancer patients, survivors and medical professionals who care for them.

The initiative draws on WonderWorks’ focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, to highlight cancer research, symptoms and treatment options.

“STEM is at the heart of cancer research, so we’re proud to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the upside-down laboratory,” said Ellen Holland, education sales manager at WonderWorks Pigeon Forge. “Our entire team is ready to ‘think pink,’ spread resources, and raise money for a great cause.”

The attraction is also preparing to recognize community heroes during First Responders Week, scheduled for Oct. 24-31.

During the week, emergency dispatchers, emergency medical technicians, firefighters, paramedics and police officers can receive free admission by presenting their employee identification at the ticket counter.

First responders may also bring up to four guests, who can purchase admission for $15 per person, plus tax.

“Fun fact: the month of October holds Breast Cancer Awareness Day, National First Responders Day, and National Tennessee Day!” said Joe Baumgartner, general manager at WonderWorks Pigeon Forge. “We’re always looking for opportunities to celebrate and support our community here at WonderWorks, so this month is sure to be a great one.”

Visitors can learn more about cancer support services through Cancer Support Community East Tennessee and find additional information about WonderWorks activities through the attraction’s website.

With October nearing its end, guests still have time to participate in the fundraising efforts, create an encouraging card or help celebrate the first responders who make a difference in the community.
