💧 Heat safety reminder
Even though summer is winding down, the heat can still take a toll — especially for anyone spending several hours outside.
If you’re heading into the Smokies this weekend:
- 💧 Drink plenty of water before you feel thirsty.
- 🥤 Consider electrolytes if you’re sweating heavily or spending extended time outdoors.
- 🧢 Wear lightweight, breathable clothing and a hat.
- 🌳 Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
- 🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
- ⛰️ Remember that hiking in the mountains is still strenuous in hot weather.
- ⛈️ If a thunderstorm develops, move indoors or into a vehicle and wait until the storm passes.
The calendar may be approaching fall, but the weather hasn’t gotten the message yet.
The Smokies.LIVE Storm Center will continue watching the heat and those afternoon mountain storms. Keep Smokies.LIVE Radar handy if you’re making outdoor plans this weekend.
