(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Friday will be the last day to finalize any plans you may need for the weekend before snow and ice arrive.
Ice Storm Warning issued for much of the Valley with Winter Storm Warnings for most everyone else.
Saturday will start off cloudy with off and on snow showers across the area. By the afternoon we have widespread snow falling across the Smoky Mountains.
The snowfall will be short-lived as we see a transition to freezing rain overnight into Sunday morning. This is when we’ll start to see the most of our impacts from powerlines coming down and roads becoming impassable.
Sunday will see a transition to all rain through the day and a switch back to snow overnight into Monday.
Don’t focus on snow totals or see rain and think we’re out of the woods. Anything on the ground will refreeze going into next week with an extended freeze for most of next week.
Today, you should think about filling up the tank, incase the power fails you can warm-up in the car. Have three days worth of food and water in the pantry. Medications are necessary to have for most of next week. Have a plan for elderly family and friends.
Any hiking in the Smoky Mountains should come with extreme caution over the weekend and next week.
