
(ALCOA, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – The winter storm may have spared East Tennessee from the brunt of the snow and ice, but it still impacted travel across the region.
The massive snowstorm that moved from Texas to the Carolinas created travel delays for people trying to leave Knoxville or get to the Smoky Mountains.
Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, Charlotte were just a handful of major cities travelers from McGee-Tyson Airport were trying to get to or from.
In Western North Carolina, nearly all flights had been grounded to and from Asheville on Sunday morning.

As of Sunday morning, 13,500 flights have been canceled across the U.S. due to the winter storm.
A reminder to check flight status before arriving to the airport. Changes in itineraries should be consulted with your specific airline.
