(CHEROKEE, N.C.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Great Smoky Mountains National Park is looking for volunteers to help visitors enjoy elk sighting safely starting in May.
Those willing to volunteer will need to be available to go to the Oconaluftee Visitor Center near Cherokee, North Carolina from May to Mid-November.
FROM THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
As an Elk Rover, you’ll:
• Share tips about safe wildlife viewing
• Help manage traffic along US 441/Newfound Gap Road
• Answer visitor questions and lend a friendly hand
• Support the safety of both elk and visitors
Volunteers commit to one four‑hour afternoon shift per week (Fri–Sun) from May through Mid‑November. Training is provided, and you’ll work alongside an amazing team of experienced rovers and park rangers.
