(CHEROKEE, N.C.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Low humidity and gusty winds for Saturday have lead the National Weather Service in Western North Carolina to issue a Red Flag Warning.
The Weather Service said these conditions mean any fire that starts will catch and spread quickly. This includes Swain and Haywood Counties.
* TIMING...From 8 AM to 11 PM EDT Saturday. * WINDS...Northeast 10 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 13 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
