The Island in Pigeon Forge plans to roll out the Red, White and Blue for July 4th weekend with lights, fountains and live music.
(PIGEON FORGE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – The Island in Pigeon Forge is planning a three-day celebration of America’s 250th Independence Day anniversary, featuring new attractions, live entertainment and family-friendly activities from July 3-5.
The centerpiece of the event is the debut of “Freedom in Motion,” a patriotic light show on the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel. The production showcases the attraction’s new $1 million lighting system, with animated LED displays that include a scrolling “USA” tribute and an eagle in flight.
Organizers said the new show was created to commemorate the nation’s semiquincentennial, marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Throughout the holiday weekend, visitors also can watch the Island Show Fountain’s “Spirit of America” performances, choreographed water, light and music displays featuring the songs “American Girl” and “God Bless the USA.”
Additional activities planned for the celebration include a new USA 250-themed photo backdrop, a free patriotic craft tent for children and nightly live music performances beginning at 8 p.m. on the Ole Smoky stage. Limited-edition merchandise commemorating the anniversary also will be available in Island shops.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime Independence Day, and we want families to experience it in a way they’ll never forget,” said Amanda Webb, marketing director for The Island in Pigeon Forge. “From the new Freedom in Motion Wheel shows to the kids’ craft tent, everything we’ve planned is designed to make this weekend feel as historic as it truly is.”
Admission and parking for the event will be free.
