Road will be closed to through traffic Sunday night through Tuesday afternoon for sewer line installation.
CHEROKEE, N.C. (Smokies.LIVE Travel Center) — Drivers traveling through Cherokee should plan for a temporary closure of US 441 Business beginning Sunday night.
Cherokee Water & Sewer says the roadway will be closed to through traffic from 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, through 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18 in the area near Burger King and Johnson Arch Road.
Tribal Construction crews will be installing a new sewer line within the roadway. Officials say the closure is necessary to allow the work to be completed safely and in compliance with NCDOT requirements.

🚗 Drivers Should Plan Ahead
Anyone traveling through the area should:
- Use an alternate route.
- Allow extra time for their trip.
- Follow posted traffic-control measures.
Emergency access will be maintained as needed.
Officials are asking drivers to plan ahead and allow additional travel time while the essential water and sewer infrastructure work is underway.
Smokies.LIVE Travel Center: If US 441 Business is part of your route through Cherokee this week, check your route before leaving and be prepared for the closure.
