Great Smoky Mountains National Park will close the popular roadway Sept. 24 for roadside mowing and maintenance
GATLINBURG, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Travel Center) — Great Smoky Mountains National Park will temporarily close the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail Sept. 24 to allow crews to safely complete roadside mowing and other maintenance.
The closure is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will begin at the entrance to the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail.
Visitors will still be able to drive the Cherokee Orchard Road loop during the closure. Access also will remain available to trailheads for:
- Old Sugarlands Trail
- Rainbow Falls Trail
- Trillium Gap Trail
- Twin Creeks Trail
Park officials encourage visitors to check the Great Smoky Mountains National Park website for the latest information on road closures, construction and other temporary restrictions before heading into the park.
The temporary closure is intended to provide a safer environment for maintenance crews working along the roadway.
