County officials say ongoing work is aimed at addressing slope failure and improving long-term roadway stability
PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Information Center) — Stabilization work is underway along a section of Battle Hill Road in Pigeon Forge following a slope failure that has affected conditions along the roadway.
Smokies.LIVE spoke with a county spokesperson who said Donnie Adams, confirmed that ongoing stabilization efforts are taking place along the affected section of Battle Hill Road.
Adams said the work is intended to address the roadway conditions and improve the long-term stability of the area.
The work comes as communities across the Smoky Mountains continue to deal with the challenges posed by steep terrain, heavy rainfall and roadway slope instability. Sevier County’s hazard mitigation planning identifies slope failures and other mass-wasting events along road networks as a recurring concern, with drainage, soil conditions and steep terrain among factors that can contribute to instability.
For Battle Hill Road, the current stabilization work is focused on addressing the affected section and helping protect the roadway from further movement.
Additional details about the project’s construction methods, cost and expected completion timeline were not immediately available.
Smokies.LIVE will continue to follow the work and provide updates as more information becomes available.
