Mid-elevation areas offer excellent leaf-viewing opportunities as some of the highest elevations move past peak color.
LINVILLE, N.C. (Smokies.LIVE Travel Center) — Fall color continues to blanket much of the North Carolina mountains, offering scenic views for visitors as the autumn foliage season progresses.
From Linville Peak, just beyond the Mile High Swinging Bridge at Grandfather Mountain, a sea of fall color stretches across the surrounding landscape.
While some of the highest elevations are beginning to move past peak color, many mid-elevation areas continue to offer excellent opportunities to see autumn leaves. Color remains widespread throughout the mountains, providing plenty of options for scenic drives, overlooks and outdoor adventures.
As the season progresses, foliage conditions vary by elevation, with higher elevations typically changing earlier than areas farther down the mountainsides.
Visitors planning fall foliage trips can explore different elevations to find vibrant colors and take in panoramic mountain views.
The Grandfather Mountain area remains a popular destination for experiencing the region’s autumn scenery.
