Permanent tribute recognizes a century of compassion, service and generosity
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Smokies.LIVE Health Center) — The American Red Cross of East Tennessee is celebrating longtime volunteer Dr. Pauline Eastham as she marks her 100th birthday Wednesday, honoring a century of compassion, service and generosity with a permanent tribute to her legacy.
Eastham has dedicated years of service to the Red Cross mission, providing comfort and support to people facing some of life’s most difficult moments.
Her volunteer work has included serving with Disaster Cycle Services and using her experience as a clinical psychologist to help communities cope in the aftermath of disasters.
Eastham has responded to major disasters, including the spring floods in the Midwest in 1997 and the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, when she served as a disaster mental health worker.
“Pauline embodies the very best of the American Red Cross,” Sharon Hudson, executive director of the American Red Cross East Tennessee Chapter, said. “Her compassion, resilience and dedication to helping others have left a mark on our organization and the communities we serve. We are honored to celebrate her 100th birthday and recognize the incredible legacy she has built through her volunteer service.”
As part of Wednesday’s celebration, a room within the Disaster Cycle Services department at the American Red Cross of East Tennessee chapter office is being dedicated to Eastham.
The permanent tribute will serve as a reminder of Eastham’s decades of volunteer service and the impact she has had on the Red Cross and the people it serves.
At 100 years old, Eastham’s legacy reflects a lifetime of service centered on helping others — a commitment that continues to inspire the East Tennessee Red Cross community.
