Hurricane Helene repairs bring part of Caldwell Fork Trail back open.

Cataloochee Valley, N.C. (Smokies.LIVE Adventure Center) — Hikers have another opportunity to explore the backcountry of Great Smoky Mountains National Park after a section of Caldwell Fork Trail reopened following repairs from damage caused by Hurricane Helene.

Park officials announced that the 0.8-mile section between Caldwell Fork Trail and the Boogerman Trail junction is once again open to the public.

Trail crews have spent time rehabilitating the damaged section, replacing two footbridges and repairing heavily damaged portions of the trail treadway that washed out during Hurricane Helene.

While the reopening provides hikers with additional access, the remainder of Caldwell Fork Trail beyond the Boogerman Trail junction remains closed.

Park officials have not yet completed rehabilitation work on that portion of the trail, and visitors should not travel beyond the reopened section.

Hikers are encouraged to check the park’s current trail and road closures before heading out.
