(GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Officials with Great Smoky Mountains National Park say a fire burning near the Rabbit Creek area of the park is now the fire is 47.5 acres and is 50% contained.

“Crews continue to establish and reinforce fire line around the perimeter,” said the park service on Facebook.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park announced four closures as a result of an active fire near the Rabbit Creek area.

The park service said the fire was reported on Sunday evening northwest of Backcountry Campsite 16. As of Monday afternoon, the fire was reported at 45.8 acres with roughly 50% containment.

Temporary closures for public safety include:

• Rabbit Creek Trail (Abrams Creek Campground to Hannah Mountain Trail)

• Cooper Road Trail (Abrams Creek Campground to Little Bottoms Trail)

• Backcountry Campsite 16 (Scott Gap)

• Abrams Creek Campground Road (closed to all visitors for firefighter access)

No structures are threatened.

The park service noted the fire is not related to the planned prescribed burns for later this week.
