(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Road crews across the Smoky Mountains are trying to remove ice off the roads. In many cases roads were a sheet of ice on Monday morning.
The melting on Sunday helped to lower the snow you see, but it all froze over night as temperatures dipped into the teens. Salt does not work when temperatures are below 16 degrees.
“Our crews are still working hard to get the roads cleared. Please be patient with us as we do this,” said Sevier County Highway Department.

Reports from Birds Creek, Boyds Creek and Jones Cove Road are just a handful of roads that are still under a sheet of ice.
In the Great Smoky Mountains, most park roads and all visitor centers remain closed due to winter weather. Crews continue to plow and sand roads, but all park roads are icy.
North Carolina DOT continues to report areas of ice on the roads through Swain & Haywood Counties.
DOT said ahead of the storm that it had been challenging to refill salt supply orders this winter because of the storms in other parts of the country.
Private driveways remain a problem through the mountains.

Roads in and near around the Jefferson County sheriffs Department are still white and Icy. I see some traffic, but not much. I’ve heard that the Main Rd., Highway 92 is clear,But to get to that road is still hazardous and snowed over.

The Stables at Boyds Creek Hwy all ice. I haven’t been able to get to work since Friday because of it.
I saw a lot of ice on Boyd’s Creek.
As of 10am this morning the city side of Allensville Road had not been touched, it was packed snow and ice driving to work. County side was clear and bone dry.
