A local firefighter, veteran and distiller is a part of the show that will be seen on Tuesday.

The hills of East Tennessee have a long, storied history with spirits, and now one of Sevierville’s own is stepping into the spotlight to prove his craft.
Jon Lanier, a dedicated local firefighter and veteran, has been officially selected as a contestant on the hit Discovery Channel series, Master Distiller.
The episode featuring Lanier is set to air this Tuesday, February 17th, at 9:00 PM ET/PT on Discovery Channel.
Lanier brings a unique blend of discipline and local heritage to the competition. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, his life has been defined by service—both to his country and to his local community as a firefighter. When he isn’t on duty, he and his wife, Katherine Mitchell, serve the community in a different way as the owners of Lanier General Store in Pigeon Forge.
“Competing on Master Distiller was an incredible opportunity to represent Sevierville and the traditions of East Tennessee,” says Lanier. “Whether it’s in the fire service or at the still, it’s all about precision, patience, and heart.”
The community is encouraged to tune in this Tuesday to cheer on a local hero as he tests his skills against some of the best distillers in the country to see if he has what it takes to be named a Master Distiller.
