(GATLINBURG, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – Friends of the Smokies said The Boyd Foundation has donated $750,000 to them for completion of the Forever Places endowment.

Friends of the Smokies started the Forever Places program in 2020 with a goal of raising $9 million to fund a full-time historic preservation crew in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

“With this donation from The Boyd Foundation, we’ve reached the finish line! Thank you to the Boyd family and all Friends of the Smokies who donated through the years to help us reach our goal. It will allow future generations to walk in the footsteps of history in the national park,” friends posted on Facebook.

“The Great Smoky Mountains have shaped who we are,” said Randy and Jenny Boyd. “Growing up, these mountains were a place of wonder, reflection, and deep connection for our family. Supporting Friends of the Smokies Forever Places is our way of ensuring that the beauty, history, and cultural significance of this extraordinary landscape are preserved for future generations. Protecting these places strengthens our community, honors our heritage, and sustains the vitality of East Tennessee for years to come.”
