(GATLINBURG, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – A landmark vacation spot for millions the past 50 years caught fire early Wednesday morning as fire investigators try to figure out what happened.
The Sidney James Mountain Lodge first started welcoming guests to Gatlinburg in the 1950s as a community pool that expanded to a 16-unit lodge. Eventually, the hotel expanded to two sides of Airport Road with a multi-story complex.
“This isn’t just a hotel. It’s a legacy built one memory at a time,” the hotel acclaimed.

On Wednesday morning, Gatlinburg Fire Department responded to the historic structure at 610 Airport Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire through the roof of one of the buildings. Approximately 20 units were on fire.
The fire was contained to the one part of the building that was on fire. And no injuries were reported from the fire.
Firefighters remained on scene through much of the day trying to figure out how the blaze started.
