It may seem strange to talk about flooding during a drought, but the ground may not soak up the water as fast as it falls from the sky.

(SEVIERVILLE, Tenn.) SMOKIES.LIVE – The next system to impact the Smoky Mountains will arrive across the area early Wednesday morning.

Rounds of showers and storms will be with us through the day on Wednesday, with some heavy downpours after sunset going into Thursday morning. There are some indications that rainfall amounts could total up to 2 inches in some locations.

A sample of rainfall from Gatlinburg to Marvyille gets the Tennessee side close to 1.50″

For the North Carolina side, there are indications Cherokee and Bryson City could get close to 2″ through early Thursday.

While we can all use the rain, the ground maybe hard in some locations which will make it more like a rock and harder to absorb the water falling.

Be extremely cautions around creeks and streams that could rise quickly in the mountains. Campers should take notice to move to higher ground at moment’s notice.
